How does booking work?
Send the inquiry form and I’ll reply within 24 hours. A signed contract and a 20% retainer hold the date; the balance is due 7 days before the session, paid through the Client Portal.
How long does a sitting take?
Thirty minutes for a headshot, an hour for an individual or a couple, ninety minutes for a family with small children. The extra time there is for the children, and it is never wasted.
I’m terrible in front of a camera — what happens?
Nobody is naturally good in front of a camera, and being left alone to act normal is the fastest route to looking stiff. So you will be told what to do: I direct hands, chin and weight, one small correction at a time. It stops feeling like direction within about five minutes, and everything worth keeping comes from after that.
What should I wear?
Solid colors, sleeves you can push up, fabrics with some weight to them — and bring more than you’ll use, two or three looks, pressed and on hangers. Avoid logos, thin stripes and busy prints; they moiré on screen and pull the eye off your face. I’ll tell you which look reads best once we’re standing in the light, because colors behave differently in open shade than they do against a downtown wall.
Where do sessions happen — a studio or outdoors?
Both, and the choice isn’t really mine: the location follows the light, never the other way round. Families do best in open shade, the kind you find under the tree line in the Presidio or along the quieter edges of Golden Gate Park. Headshots want a north-facing window, so those usually stay indoors. Anything that should read warm gets the last hour of sun, somewhere the light arrives unobstructed. Tell me what the portrait is for and I’ll propose the place and the hour together, since one is no use without the other.
How much retouching do you do?
Enough to remove what wasn’t there last week, and nothing that was. Blemishes and stray hairs go; lines, freckles and scars stay unless you ask otherwise.
When do I get the images?
Within two weeks, as high-resolution files plus web-sized crops. Headshot sittings include a square and a 4:5 version of every selected frame, sized for the platforms that want them.
